St. Joseph County is home to a state high school football championship squad and a state-title runner-up.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association staged its playoffs at Ford Field in Detroit over the weekend and the Mendon Hornets claimed the Division 8 title with a 33-0 win over Fowler. Friday’s victory capped an unblemished season for Mendon, which registered a 14-0 season record.
The Constantine Falcons put up a solid fight for the first half, playing defending Division 6 champion Ithaca to a halftime tie. But the Yellowjackets poured it on in the third and fourth quarters to claim a 42-14 victory Friday.
Members of the Constantine squad, which finished the season 11-3, were honored during a community salute Sunday afternoon at Constantine High School.
