WP Schools Hoping For Millage Renewal

Members of the White Pigeon Community Schools Board of Education were presented a list of priorities to address if an impending millage renewal is approved.

Eric Hackman, from Kalamazoo-based engineering and architecture firm Tower Pinkster Titus Associates Inc., told board members Wednesday that infrastructure-related work at Central Elementary School should take place first.

The potential work is contingent on a May 8 millage request, as the 795-student district is seeking renewal of 3 mills that would generate about $1 million annually over the five-year life of the sinking-fund millage.

Hackman said the most-pressing needs at Central include a need for additional classroom electrical outlets; renovation of all bathrooms; replacing plumbing lines, fixtures, storm lines and sanitary lines; and replacing original electrical panels.

The work at Central would begin in the summer of 2013.

If the request is approved, work would shift to White Pigeon High School in 2014.
