The third “Generate Sturgis” event last week resulted in an award of $1,000 to a White Pigeon teacher for the concept of what she called Make-It, Take-It.
“Generate Sturgis,” where residents with unique and practical business ideas pitch their concepts to city officials, drew five contestants last week.
Theresa Hazard’s concept was voted the best idea, which called for a health-approved kitchen where people may prepare and sell baked goods. She said the idea is to promote locally made goods with a simple variety of ingredients.
Mary Lou Falkenstein and Dustin Pike both won $500 for their second- and third-place finishes.
Falkenstein proposed a location where artists, actors, musicians and comics can meet. Pike proposed developing an urban arts community.
The final Generate Sturgis presentations will be Nov. 1 and cash prizes will be awarded.
