Roger Evans, 67

Roger Wesley Evans, age 67, of Portage, died Monday Dec. 3, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was born in Three Rivers on Oct. 8, 1945 the son of Otis M. and Ethel (Campbell) Evans and was a lifetime resident of Southwest Michigan. Roger graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1963 and then went to work at W.F. Wells in Three Rivers where he worked for over 20 years. He later worked for Upjohn/Pfizer for 23 years until his retirement. Following retirement he worked briefly at Kohl’s Department Store. Roger took classes at Notre Dame and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He coached Little League Baseball and the Cougar Cagers at KVCC. Roger was a member of the Notre Dame Club of Kalamazoo and the WMU Bronco Club. He was a volunteer at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, and was an usher for Bronco Football, Basketball, and Hockey games.
Roger was married to Mary Ann Culp on Feb. 14, 1970 in St Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. She survives along with three children, Scott (Nicole) Evans of Plainwell, Tracey Hale of Portage, and Tammy (Edward) Davidson of Holland; five grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Sue) Evans of Seattle, WA; and several in laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday Dec. 6, 2012 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre St., Portage, MI 49024. The funeral mass for Roger Evans will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Father Robert Creagan officiating. Following a luncheon at the church burial will take place at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon. It is suggested that memorials be directed to the Notre Dame Student Scholarship Fund, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
