School cancelled in Constantine
December 17, 2012 by WLKM
An outbreak of the flu in Constantine Public Schools has prompted Superintendent Chuck Frisbie to close the district’s schools Tuesday and Wednesday.
Frisbie said the 1,434-student district saw an absence rate of about 15 percent last week. On Monday, about 25 percent of Eastside Elementary’s population was absent, about 15 percent more than usual.
Vomiting and children showing symptoms consistent with the flu have been prevalent last week and Monday, Frisbie said. After bringing the matter to the attention of the county health department, Frisbie said he was encouraged by its staff members to keep students away from the district’s four buildings for at least 48 hours.
Janitorial staff will conduct a thorough cleaning of all surface areas, buses and anywhere germs are potentially passed.
Wednesday’s special meeting regarding an incident between two boys at Eastside Elementary will go on as planned, Frisbie said.
