Sam Hemminger, 72

Vernon M. (Sam) Hemminger, 72, of White Pigeon, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, following a short illness.

He was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Vicksburg, Mich., a son of Ralph L. and Mildred (Crotser) Hemminger.

He had lived in the White Pigeon and Mottville area since the age of 12 and was a graduate of White Pigeon High School.

On Oct. 3, 1964, he married Eleanor S. King in Three Rivers, Mich. She died Feb. 20, 1985.

He was a farmer all his life and attended Mottville Bible Church. He was a member of the Wilson Restaurant Breakfast Club and enjoyed restoring old tractors. He was a member of the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Club, the Indian Prairie Plowmans 2 Cylinder Club, and the Lake Grange of Bristol, Ind.

Surviving are two sons, Timothy S. (Tracy) Hemminger of White Pigeon, and E. Alan (Karrie) Hemminger of Muskegon, Mich.; a grandson, Cade E. Hemminger of Muskegon; two sisters, Sherrill (Lyle) Kline of Constantine and Martha Elder of Kingsley, Mich.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mottville Bible Church, Mottville, with Pastor Michael Bender officiating. Burial will be in Mottville Township Cemetery.
