Former Village Market sold

The Centreville Downtown Development Authority recently completed a transaction that includes the purchase of the former Village Market.

DDA officials announced details of the purchase Tuesday, saying the $75,000 deal includes the 20,600-square-foot grocery building and attached plaza that features four storefronts.

DDA Chair Pattie Bender said the association’s interest in the property was – in part – because of the deal offered by previous owner Dennis Murk and also to have control in prospective tenants or its future owners.

Bender said if it had been sold to another non-profit, the chances of it ever being placed back on tax rolls would have been greatly diminished. Ultimately, she said, the DDA would like to sell the property so it will again be a viable place of business and back on tax rolls.

DDA executive director Carol Snow-Penn will serve as property manager.
