Narcotics Unit making a difference
February 1, 2013 by WLKM
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite said statistics show the effort of the enhanced St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit is making a difference in the number of arrests related to methamphetamines.
Citing statistics from 2012, Lillywhite said 18 meth-related arrests were from January through September in St. Joseph County.
After the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved funding to add investigators to the sheriff’s department SCAN unit Oct. 1, the number of meth-related arrests in the county doubled to 36, from October through December.
Lillywhite said the availability of more manpower and an increase in anonymous tips from citizens have benefitted the efforts of the SCAN unit.
