St. Joe County seeking new administrator

St. Joseph County’s search for a new administrator may receive help from someone familiar with the position.

J. Patrick Yoder, who served as the county’s first-ever administrator for four years starting in 1990, has sent a letter of interest to county board chairman John Dobberteen regarding the position that was vacated last month with the retirement of Judy West-Wing. West-Wing took over the position after Yoder retired in 1994.

Yoder has expressed an interest in assisting commissioners with the transition. The parties are expected to hash over the issue during a special meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday next week.

A native of Suttons Bay, Yoder currently serves as village manager in Three Oaks. His input is expected to help commissioners develop a job description of the post.

In the absence of a county administrator, finance department director Joni Smith and human resource director Elishia Arver have teamed up to help with the county’s day-to-day operations.
