Colon Schools to get donation

Colon High School will be able to better support its Future Farmers of America students thanks to the generosity of local farmer, Ruby Miller, and America’s Farmers Grow Communities.

Sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, Grow Communities provides farmers in eligible counties the chance to win a $2,500 donation for a local nonprofit organization of their choice.

Because St. Joseph County’s heat and lack of rain last summer qualified it as a disaster area, Miller was selected to choose two organizations to receive $2,500 donations. She selected the Colon High School FFA as the recipient of both donations.

School officials said the FFA will use the funds to enrich the opportunities for students to learn about agriculture in their community, state and nation.

In Michigan, Monsanto is $185,000 is across 37 counties.
