Carol McKercher, 88

Carol J. McKercher, age 88, of Colon, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers.

Carol was born June 13, 1924, in Burr Oak, a daughter of the late Lawson and Nellie (Passahl) Lancaster.

She lived most of her life in Colon, graduating from Colon High School in 1940. Later in life she spent her winters in Lakeland, Fla.

On June 22, 1946, she married Bruce D. McKercher in Colon.

Carol had worked as a secretary for Lamb Knit Goods in Colon and retired from Colon schools after 20 years of service.

She enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bingo in Florida and was a big Detroit Tigers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Colon; a son, Brian (Debra) McKercher of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Deb (Robert) Long of Colon; four grandchildren, Patrick and Bridgette McKercher of Richmond, Va., Ashley (Jeremy) Meyers of Colon and Andrew (Stephanie) Long of Mendon; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Mason Meyers of Colon; and a sister, Doris McKale of Burr Oak.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Lancaster.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Carol J. McKercher will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Private interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Carol to the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
