Carol Summey, 60

Carol Lee Summey, age 60, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 19, 2013 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She was born December 24, 1952 in Buffalo, New York daughter of Robert Roy and June Carol (Weaver) Kauffman.

The Kauffman family relocated to Sturgis from Buffalo, New York in 1958 and Carol was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1970 and continued her education at Kalamazoo College where she earned an Associate Degree. She and Bob also resided in Green Bay Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois and New Albany, Indiana.

On August 26, 1972 she married Robert Summey at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Carol was an administrative assistant at the Sturgis Public Schools for 10 years and also worked at the Gravi-Flo Corporation for seven years.

She was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and the Ava Maria Alter Society. She was a past member and past president of the Sturgis Junior Women’s League and enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling and reading. Carol truly cherished every moment she was able to spend with her grandson.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 40 years, Robert; one son: Matthew (Ellen) Summey of Vacaville, California; one grandson: Cole Patrick Summey; father: Robert Kauffman of Sawyer; one sister: Kim (Richard) Turner of Mooresville, North Carolina; two brothers: Chris (Sally) Kauffman of Sawyer and Corey (Dawn) Kauffman of Blackhawk, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Holy Angles Catholic Church in Sturgis. Private placement of the ashes will take place at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium in Sturgis.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements.
