John Minor Jr., 61

John Warner Minor Jr., 61, of Burr Oak, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held on at 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak Township. Funeral arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.

John was born Aug. 6, 1951, in Steubenville, Ohio, to John and Peg (Morris) Minor. He was a 1970 graduate of Stanton Local High School. On Feb. 6, 1971, John married Christine Ann Getzloff in Burr Oak.

Mr. Minor was a resident of Burr Oak for the past 42 years and was a dedicated crew leader at Abbott Labs for many years. He volunteered on the Abbott emergency response team and was a Boy Scouts master for five years. John was an avid sportsman and member of Ducks Unlimited. He especially liked deer hunting, water fowl hunting and fishing. John enjoyed history and re-enacting historical wars, such as the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. He was a great man, husband, father and grandfather who was always willing to help. He loved spending time and taking small trips with his family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Christine; his daughter, Nicole (Charlie) Persinger of Burr Oak; his parents, John and Peg Minor of Irondale, Ohio; his brothers, Roger (Marjorie) Minor of Salineville, Ohio, and Tom (Carol) Minor of Wellsville, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Collin and Teagan Persinger. John was preceded in death by his infant son, John Devon Minor, in 1972 and his teenage daughter, Colleen Andrea Minor in 1989.

Memorials may be directed to the CHC Cancer Center in Coldwater, the Regional Cancer Center in Angola, Ind., the American Cancer Society-Great Lakes Division or your local cancer center.
