GOCC professor receives award

Glen Oaks Community College President Gary Wheeler announced Steve Ryno as the recipient of the Shaheen Teaching Excellence Award, which recognizes a faculty member for innovation and quality instruction.

A professor of communications, Ryno, 35, is the 29th recipient of the award.

Ryno was named the winner of the award during the school’s 45th graduation ceremony, staged Friday in its gymnasium.

Wheeler also announced Three Rivers resident Anne McLeod as the President’s Award recipient. A native of England, McLeod was is president of Phi Theta Kappa at GOCC.

Wheeler commended McLeod for her dedication, perseverance, motivation and impressive work ethic.

About 130 of the school’s 184 members of the 2013 graduating class took part in the 90-minute commencement.
