Crowd pleasing alumni football game

Graduates from two area high schools put on a crowd-pleasing alumni football game over the weekend.

With a full house of more than 3,000 fans looking on, Mendon’s alumni squad topped the host Schoolcraft Eagles, 30-21, Saturday night.

Mendon’s alumni team featured a roster of 50 players, the oldest was Joe Baker, a 1977 graduate who contributed by recovering a fumble. Schoolcraft featured a 42-man roster with its oldest members graduates from the early 1980s.

Mendon cruised to victory thanks to first-half touchdown runs by 1994 graduate Mike Straley and class of ’93 member Trent Allen. Tim Slaughter Jr., from the 1990 class, added a touchdown reception in the third quarter, while Mendon recorded its final score with a 90-yard pass play from 2008’s Brian Baker to 2013 graduate Nick Eberstein late in the third quarter.

The teams will meet again for an alumni-match next summer in Mendon.
