Trine students create special shower

A disabled man will be able to take a shower without assistance thanks to a hands-free, automatic shower system designed by students from a college in northeastern Indiana.

A team of senior engineering students at Trine University developed the shower for 60-year-old Terry Haffner of nearby Fort Wayne. Haffner was born without arms and with partial legs. He says the shower was the last hurdle to making his home completely accessible.

Haffner says this is the first time he’s been able to shower himself without any help.

The unit is divided into stations that wash various parts of the body. Haffner moves through it much like an auto would move through an automatic car wash.

Trine is a private school located in Angola, 40 miles north of Fort Wayne.  (AP)
