Bruce Snook, 66

Bruce C. Snook, age 66, of Three Rivers, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 24, 1946 in Sturgis, the son of the late L. Wendell and Mildred (Ives) Snook.

Bruce worked at radio stations in Three Rivers, Lansing and Dowagiac, as well as Keokuk, Iowa. He also worked at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, fulfilling service as a Conscientious Objector to the Vietnam War. He has been a life-long resident and advocate for St. Joseph County. Bruce was the Director of the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce from 1992-2007. He was instrumental in establishing the St. Joseph County Economic Development Commission and served on its board for many years. Bruce took delight in working with his team to present the Water Festival, the annual event which is a celebration of this beautiful city and its people.

He has served on the boards of the Carnegie Center for the Arts, World Fare, Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy, Three Rivers Downtown Development Association, Three Rivers Industrial Development Authority, and the historic St. Paul’s Reformed Church near Colon. Most recently he served on the board for the development of the River Country Recreational Authority Trails Project. Bruce became a member of the Lions Club in 1974 and has served as a board member, President, newsletter editor, Christmas paper editor, Vice District Governor, and chairman of the Michigan Lions News Magazine advisory board. For over thirty years he served as emcee for Three Rivers Lions Club Citizen of the Year banquets, as well as a myriad of other local events over the years.

With his recent endeavor, River Country Journal, Bruce was fulfilling his dream of providing a local news and community affairs magazine, which focused on the many beautiful people, places and events in this river country. On his behalf, his family asks that each of you continue his dream of celebrating and nurturing life in St. Joseph County’s River Country.

Bruce was an avid reader and loved to discuss events local and worldwide. He loved reading to all of the children and grandchildren, and took pride in their spirit and achievements.

Bruce leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of forty-six years, Raeann (Triano) Snook, of Three Rivers; two children, Natasha (Keith) Johnson, and their children, Alaina (Kyle) Nelson, Marlia and Cameron Johnson, of San Tan Valley, AZ., and Colin (Marcie) Snook, and their children, Kirsten, Julia, and Parker Snook, all of Portage, MI.; two sisters, Rita Dean, of Coldwater, and Mary (Jim) Taylor, of Portage, as well as several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the Hohner Funeral Home.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at the Riverside Church, 207 E. Michigan Ave., Three Rivers; with Rev. Dr. Pam Allen-Thompson of Peoples’ Church officiating.
