Two taken into custody for meth

Two men, ages 23 and 17, were taken into custody by Sturgis police following a foot pursuit near Franks Park late Tuesday.

According to the Sturgis Police Department, the two were seen walking in the park shortly before midnight. Police suspected the two were involved in a methamphetamine lab earlier in the day.

As officers attempted to stop them, the suspects ran away. The 17-year-old was quickly captured and a backpack in his possession was found to include components used in the production of meth.

The department’s K-9 unit was used to locate the other suspect, who was found near a fence row at the west end of the city park.

The Sturgis residents were charged with resisting and obstructing, and manufacture of meth.
