I hope we hear the follow up to this story. You always wonder what happened to your good old People Magazine when it comes two weeks late in the mail…..
I listened to CNN news on the hour today. USA announced 8000 troops will be pulled out of Iraq by Feb. Good news! Except on CNN. Instead they said things are so bad there we can’t have a full pullout. I turn your channel off at the top of every hour. CNN is the worst news service you could have. Can you replace with something that is not so biased?
Thanks for visiting our website, and thanks for your comment regarding CNN News. Your comment has been forwarded to CNN World Headquarters in Atlanta. Your input is always welcome!
Do you have any plans of streaming WLKM FM on the internet?
We will never forget. Thanks for the statement WLKM. We’re all in this together.
Harold: Yes, we’ve been exploring the possibility of streaming WLKM-FM via our website. Thanks for writing!
I just wanted to let you know I’m out here listening to K-Wings’ broadcasts. I’ll be in my backyard before a campfire for tonight’s season opener as I often will be throughout the season!
Thank tou for your news and obits, sure wish the local diggers would keep it current like the rest of the county.
fantastic job! I listen to your station every day at work and at home – I know what is happening before many others – I get the “scoop” from you.
R.I.P. Mike going to miss you man! Best of luck shane on your recovery!
It is great to see the K-wings doing so well.
Nice to see them getting recognition for their efforts.

The anti-smokers are guilty of flagrant scientific fraud for ignoring more than 50 studies, which show that human papillomaviruses cause over ten times more lung cancers than they pretend are caused by secondhand smoke. Passive smokers are more likely to have been exposed to this virus, so the anti-smokers’ studies, because they are all based on nothing but lifestyle questionnaires, have been cynically DESIGNED to falsely blame passive smoking for all those extra lung cancers that are really caused by HPV.
The anti-smokers have committed the same type of fraud with every disease they blame on smoking and passive smoking, as well as ignoring other types of evidence that proves they are lying, such as the fact that the death rates from asthma have more than doubled since their movement began.
Morning! Since I have been laid off as of Monday “due to economic times” keep me in your thoughts should you hear of any job prospects.
What is wrong with the fleet of Limos the executive branch has already? Just what we need, spend more money! Perhaps the White House should be rebuilt each time a new President come in. Lets try and curb spending people.
i do not like your new format. where can i click on to read all the local news?
Not sure where that headline came from. The body of the piece seems to indicate that Michigan is still tops in seat belt use.
Thanks for your email, Sharon. To easily view all of the local news, simply click on NEWS on the right side of our orange menu bar. Our Home Page highlights items which have been recently added to the website.
Not sure where you are – but it doesn’t sound too cold. We operate on the Celsius scale but it hasn’t really mattered this week. Minus 40 is the same either F or C.
We’re in southwest Michigan. Minus 20 degrees fahrenheit equals minus 28 celsius. Brrrr!!
We would like to offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to you and your family on the loss of Mrs. Wells. It was our pleasure to deliver newspapers to her everyday.
She will be missed.

Zach was a good friend to me….. We all loved him very much and were sad to see him go……… He always made me laugh when I was having a bad day….. I will miss him dearly and I hope that where ever he is that he is happy…..
Very cool Norm.
Thanks for letting me know about the goof on our website. The error has been corrected.
Where can I pick up a #39 K-Wing jersey? This Trent Daavettilla kid looks unbelieveable out there! Where’d they pick this kid up from?
Cancer of all types is always about carrying “emotional rage” within the subconscious mind. There is an emotional piece of the ego that acts as a barrier or emotional block. Through personal growth work… healing and forgiveness can take place and the dynamics that cause the cancer can slowly and incrementally be released from the body. You have to get to the emotional root of the dis-ease within the psyche. It helps to have a wise holistic spiritual teacher who can help you get into communion with your Higher Self. Raise your energetic vibration to experience wellness and joy.
Thank you so much for the plug!!!!! We all here at Bethel appreciate it so very much! Thank you again!
D.W. Tolbert, Pastor
Kevin Schamehorn had impressive numbers 45 Goals and 345 PiM the same year year with the k-wings and Neil Meadmore racked up good numbers throughout his career 48 goals and P.I.M. totals of 380 P.I.M. and 267 P.I.M. both with the admirals and k-wings. However there is never any real proof of the value of a player as the Pro Game is a Fine Line a cutting edge of intense competition not easily defined by just statistics. They are real gladiators in a Hockey Arena that sometimes play 90-100 games in the I.H.L. I played Major Junior Canadian Hockey and I salute all Pro Players especially the Minor Leagues and how about Coach Bruce Boudreau getting to the N.h.l. after serving most Minor Leagues as a player.
what can we do with dog waste in our own yards? the trash company i use doesnt allow it. i’m at a loss. i use michiana recycling&disposal & have asked them and they dont know either, what do other people do? any suggestions will be appreciated.
I am sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time.
We believe at http://www.medcareprovider.com/nurse-transfer.htm that —- Putting extra money in different projects —- is not the ultimate solution to meet the immediate demand of NURSES or DOCTORS.
We need to allow more work visa for foreign nurses while we educate locally to meet the demand for future.
The deficit at the hospital was created by the goverment. By their Medicaid and other give away programs to those who do not pay their part for services, or taxes. Why should the citizens of this area pay ?
I say the government should pay for it if they order it.
And yet they want to have total socialized medicine!! God help us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Steven’s family,
So sorry to hear of your loss, so hard at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Take care, he will surely be missed.
Sincerly Mary and family
I miss you Janer!
Do we Care about our Fellow Citizens?
“Yes” is the answer that most people would provide. However, is it actually true? If that was the case, there would have been no hungry, unemployed, or deprived people. As long as a society has people who are deprived of basic needs such as job, food, home, and medical facilities, we cannot state that we care about our fellow citizens. A perfect example, where a few of us show our uncaring attitude towards deprived fellow citizens, is the opposing of a casino in a place where thousands of people are jobless. In a place where more than 20 percent of the population is unemployed, the setting up of a casino is seen as the only ray of hope. By opposing the establishment of a casino in such an area, we are in fact taking away the only chance that the jobless people have to earn legitimate money. We are bluntly letting all these jobless people know that we do not care for them.
If you sit back and think in broader terms, a casino in a place where thousands of families do not get to eat one square meal in a day, is a boon. It is a gift to all the jobless people and will present them with an opportunity to earn bread and butter for their family. A job at the casino will help thousands of parents send their children to good schools and colleges so that the children do not face the same plight in their lives. In addition to all this, a casino will also thrust millions of dollars into the local economy. With an abundance of funds, the local authorities can provide superior medical and health care facilities to people. Better schools and colleges can be set up in the area and more shops and utility stores can be established. The local authorities will also be able to set up small scale industries in the area that will provide more job opportunities to the locals. All this is possible with a right beginning. Yes, the setting up of a casino in such an area is the beginning that can lead to a prosperous future.
Therefore, instead of opposing the establishment of a casino in such a place, we should rather support it. We should make our jobless fellow citizens believe that we care about them and want to help them. We should assist them in getting out of this financial crisis so that even they can live like we do. By doing so, we will present a much more responsible and mature picture of the present generation. We can set an example for others to follow so that even they can extend a helping hand towards the needy fellow citizens. By simply supporting the setting up of a casino in a place where thousands of people are jobless, we will prove it to the world that we care about our fellow citizens. Let us take up this opportunity to help all jobless people and present them with a new and happy beginning.
What is the purpose of building four one-car garages? Why would you want to drop a one-car garage on the middle of an unused piece of property?
Are these for use by the school system? I can’t imagine why. Are they intended for rental? Who would want to rent a garage on that side of town?
Creating jobs? The only way many small neighborhood bars in Chicago stay in business is by ignoring the ban. The only places doing ok are the “trendy” places that have a high turnover with many other places closeby.
If that were the case, he would not have put America, and those American lives he sacrificed in his invasion of another country. His Presidency was by far the worst in American history, next to those who presided over the Viet Nam war. He caused too much destruction in America and the world. They should put an asterik next to his name like they now do in baseball stats. He literally sucked all the feeling out of being an American, he stole the neighbor out of the neighbor hoods in America. Will we as Americans actually take the time to think, to reflect and feel what it is like to know the useless loss of life Bush and his cronies literally wasted? The next great Artist, father, Pope, uncle, some family has a loss, a hole in their family, someone is missing from the picture. But we do not really get it, after all we have seen and become a part of what we allowed this individual to cause, the destruction he has created socially for all Americans. One thing we should all be glad of, and that is that he no longer is President.
Thanks for your email. The link has been fixed.
You’ve got to wear a reflective vest, when riding a bicycle at night.
In this case, Mr. Wooster had dismounted his bike and walked over to the car. Unfortunately, the bicycle reflectors stayed on the bicycle, leaving Mr. Wooster practically invisible.
It’s very sad, my condolences to the Wooster family.
I just don’t know where they will end up. If they end up in the USHL, the fan base will be in for a disappointment. Low American juniors isn’t exactly great hockey, it’s a step up from Michigan high school hockey. And the AHL already has their max number of teams for the upcoming year. Furthermore who is your rival, what team will come in and give your attendance a boost when you have a losing year. The closest teams are Toledo & Cinncy… these are also the only other teams in the midwest. Are these teams going to give the fans the same emotion as Fort Wayne, Muskegon, Port Huron…
But to an extent I’m a jealous hockey fan… I have wished Ft. Wayne would move leagues. I grew up in Fort Wayne during the 90’s when the hockey in the IHL was beyond words, and now I live in Augusta, Georgia where our local ECHL hockey team folded this past year and it looks like we will be with out hockey for at least another year… or until the no name SPHL accepts the city into there league. Just for s&g’s the ECHL hockey that I saw here in the south was not great hockey, not even good hockey.
How do you figure that the USHL is “low American juniors”?? The USHL is at the top of USA Hockey’s Junior program. Is it on par with the OHL. Maybe.
If that is the way the Wings go, it would almost be a step up from the IHL. USHL players are pure prospects and are often drafted. The K-Wings would instantly become one of the jewels of the level of play.
Maybe you should do just a bit of homework before posting like this.
USHL is low American juniors? It’s at most a half-step below the major junior hockey being played in Saginaw and Plymouth. Go look at their recent NHL draft record. It’s only going to get better with the NTDP coming into the league.
Michigan HS hockey isn’t much to look at. If those players had any serious talent they’d be playing for the best midget and junior (USHL and NAHL) teams.
My name is Amanda and i’m Alvin’s youngest child. I just want to thank everyone for their prayers and hopes that went out to my father and my family. My dad was a wonderul guy and would help anyone in need. I know he is now with his mothers and his brother, his best friend. I love you Dad, I’ll meet you again in Heaven.
If you want to get rid of some money don’t send it to me. Just deposit it in my bank account,
about 2/3s of the USHL players go on to NCAA hockey, so it isn’t a terrible league, saying it is a half step below the OHL would probably be right. Best case would be that K-Zoo, Muskegon, Flint and Fort Wayne, joined up with the ohio teams of the ECHL to develp a centeral division of that league.
Congratulations on Kalamazoo joining the ECHL, here from a fan in South Carolina, home of the new, three-time Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays.
Should be a great league to see next season. Michigan is the home state of Nasty Nate Kiser, who now lives in Hanahan, and is arguably the most popular Stingray currently.
What is the likelihood of this passing the senate before the end of the summer? Anyone have any legislative knowledge ?
wow…i don’t get it. they wanted a more stable league?? isn’t this the league that lost two teams in mid season, and three at the end of the year? have fun going to florida, texas, california, or alaska on your road trips. ..ray
I don’t understand how Paul Pickard was one of the people that voted Elmira out of the new IHL because of travel concerns. Yet now they are going to be in the same division as Elmira. Oh yeah and having to travel a ton because only 2 other teams are in the same proximity as the other 5 in the IHL were. Also does K-Zoo expect to win at all, they couldn’t win in the IHL.
Fred is hopeful that “Cash for Clunkers” will be attached to a bill coming out of the Senate within the next week or two. Given the strong, bipartisan vote in the House this week, and the President’s vocal support, we should be nearing the goal line. We’ll be sure to keep you and the all the folks at WLKM posted as the bill progresses.
Rep. Fred Upton
well although the ECHL is a considerably better league with better overall talent and many more teams to play….(the 6 team IHL by everyones thoughts got boring seeing the same teams game after game) its a huge risk financially to do this and there really are no close rivals…all the road games are going to be long drives…hopefully you can fill the arena to pay higher salaries and much costlier expenses. We in muskegon will miss the rivalry and maybe someday meet again….good luck
This is such Bull!! I am a tax payer in the Fisher Lake area and my taxes will go up as a result of the sewer system. I didn’t get a vote in this issue, just the lake people got to vote. I went to the meeting at Morepark school and it did not appear that anyone was in favor of the sewer system. I guess that I get as many people as I can to write our Congressman as possible. The average guy is having a hard enough time just keeping his head above water in this economy let alone paying higher taxes. Sewer for future growth, my behind, the lake is over crowded already!
I did enjoy this years event. I took my two children and they enjoyed it also.
Unemployment is very high where I live and it’s been difficult to find support (and the news has also been so negative). So I wanted to point out a helpful resource that I have been using: http://www.joblessjoe.com
Yeah, sympathy for some of these investors is definitely misplaced. This is a good article that explains why:
The thing that bothers me is that Madoff is being scapegoated for stealing money from people when that is exactly what banks and corporations did to get us into this crisis: http://www.newsy.com/videos/madoff_who_s_really_to_blame
I don’t see any cuts in the lucrative pension plans we pay for. Do you? It seems to be Ok for us to take hosing in our retirement, and pay higher and higher taxes and additional fee for everything, but no decrease in the pensions for the state lawmakers and government employees.
If Lori needs more info on passing laws http://www.OptOutDetectives.com works with police associations to help pass tougher ID Theft laws. Check them out they have helped in CA and AZ.
I think it is unnecessary that Three Rivers Dental Care has made a law to make the adults ages 18-60+years pay for their dental care instead of them getting it done by their Medicaid Card.
Its also silly that they are allowing this to happen in Three Rivers, people who doesn’t or never had dental care will lack from not having it.
I’m sorry you missed the fireworks at the American Legion Post 170 on the 4th. We, the Sons of the American Legion, had a good barbeque then finished off the evening with fireworks. Maybe next year, you can check us out.
I’d like to see us mentioned in your “Out and About” when we have an event. Our next event will be the Toy Run on Sept 12th when we will have another barbeque and watch the toy run as it goes by the Legion on South Main. I usually leave a flyer with the radio station and give some meal tickets to be sold for advertising.
Hope to see something in your column about it and please feel free to come check us out!
Our functions are usually open to the public, although you have to signed in as a guest, and have a member buy alcohol. Food prices are listed as donations for tax purposes.
This article is misleading. I applied for the cash for clunker program, but was denied because I paid my vehicle registration 6 days late. I have owned this vehicle for 11 years and it has been registered and insured for all 11 years. I was cheated out of 4500. , the state loses the tax revenue, and the big three lost a much needed sale. This is appalling. I feel horrible for all the people who are struggling to pay on-time and then get slapped in the face.
I am looking for a seminar on social networking. Can anyone help?
if the clunker’s stimulus is working so well then the government needs to act on it now and don’t wait any longer
Even with Cash for Clunkers never forget to negotiate the car price.
This is shameful.Please take care of your children.Our children are the future;
Sorry to here about dear old dad – Don’t know much about your dad. But God Bless the family .
The postal service will suffer a 7 billion dollar this year. The government does not fund the postal service.
Postal Service executives are often called inept. I guess consoldating operations to reduce costs is another bad decision by the PMG.
What is Rep. Upton’s solution for the problem of not having enough money to keep every fully staffed and operational.
And as more get unemployed, they rush their resumes off to ANYTHING! Heard of the ‘Resume Race Theory’?
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. Cheers! Sandra. R.
Perhaps we should merge the Dept. of Ag with DNR and DEQ. The proven leaders in AG could help show the delinquents in DNR and DEQ the light. By the way AG may get less than .5% of the general funds but DEQ gets about the same share less than 1% with 2.5 times the number of employees.
Physicians cannot pass this tax cost on to consumers. Medicare/Medicaid and all major insurers do not allow “balance billing” by medical providers. Physician would have to pay this tax out of pocket. That is why doctors will leave Michigan if it passes.
hi my name is oonagh i am a breast care nurse , i to run a support group for women who have breast cancer. our group is known as the rivers breast care group and recently you came up on an email link !! its nice to think across the many miles we are offering a similar service. we meet every 8 weeks, our last meeting we did palaties our numbers are small but our friendship huge
Sounds like you’ve got the right system. Congrats and good luck moving forward with the new technology.
IT, Deltec Sytems
I heard someone interviewing Martinez on WJR last night and didn’t believe a damn thing she was saying. If we’re going to flush our tax payer dollars down the drain and subsidize Michigans future on the promise of green technology, I need a better salesman than than the liberal Granholm loving “Absolutely” Martinez. From one salesman to another, if you’re using the word “absolutely” more than once, you’re having trouble convincing the customer(Michigan). The people of this state know falsehoods when they here them, unless their drones. Your sales pitch Ms. Martinez sucked.
I really like this web site, the news prodcast is great. I didn’t know that you also had “listen online to wildcat football” that is great, the sound is much better through the online program. GREAT JOB..
DO YOU ADVERTISE THIS SITE ON CH 13 , THE LOCAL TV STATION, I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THEY DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THAT YOU HAD A WEB PAGE, KEN BAKER
My mother is loved and missed.
Actually, Indianapolis just voted down a smoking ban. States are becoming more wise to the propaganda of tobacco control.
In 1998 the World Health Organization completed one of the largest international case-control studies of secondary smoke and lung cancer ever undertaken. When the report was finished however it didn’t get the usual big flashy press release and news conference most of these reports do. Instead it was up to a UK Telegraph reporter, Victoria MacDonald, to uncover what it had found and publicize it.
This huge study, the one that had been counted on to deliver a final condemnation of secondary smoke’s connection to lung cancer instead found NO significant connection for adults. And when it looked at children the news for Antismokers was even worse: the one, single, significant result of the entire study was that children of smokers eventually got 22% *LESS* lung cancer than children of nonsmokers!
The WHO was not happy with the results of its study being released in that way so they immediately turned around and issued a big bold headlined press release declaring ‘PASSIVE SMOKING DOES CAUSE LUNG CANCER, DO NOT LET THEM FOOL YOU’, ” despite the fact that their own study was not even able to find minimally significant support for such a claim.
The abstract, some analysis, and the link to the full study for your own examination can be found through the courtesies of Michael McFadden and Audrey Silk at the NY Clash site at the bottom of:
So take one thing from the WHO’s antismoking press release as fact: “DO NOT LET THEM FOOL YOU!” Their actual study did NOT support smoking bans
I always get a kick out of smokers or like Youvebeenhad who continue to post discredited and phoney science bought and paid for years ago by big tobacco. They then add links to mysterious sites run by mystery groups where the “science” would make most knowledgeable people shake their heads. Even big tobacco companies no longer print some of this fishy and heavily discredited material.
We miss you and think of you often…
Keep it going K-Wings!
what took so long. congratulations to the board to finally attempt to balance the budget. better late then ever.
Maybe the city of Three Rivers should do the same.
The county would not be in a budget shortfall if the county commission would do what we voted them in more and do what is best for the whole county, not just for a selected few.
it is clear that its long past due that they should of start cutting some of the fat from these departments and more, a long time ago.
go into any of these office’s. 10 people standing around or sitting around gabbing and 1 person waiting on you with a line 2 miles long.
or try to call one of these offices where everyone is sitting around gabbing and all you get a answering machine and if they do answer or do call back you get the drift from them like “why are you bothering me”
its time a cost effective expert comes in and finds out what position should go or what person should go.
Never have or pay 5 people to do a job that one person can do. Especially since 4 of them are not working while on the payroll anyway.
I’m glad to see Cleaver made it up. Just means the other boys need to step up.
It appears that unless benefits from Tier III are receivable in the first week of December that there could be at least a week’s pay that will not be retroactive due to the one week extension to Tier II. Otherwise, from November 8th to lets say December 14th (mid December) would be a 5 week retroactive check. Nice ; )
WAY TO GO WILDCATS !!!!!!!!! YES!!!! WE KNEW YOU ALL COULD DO IT!!!!!!!! YES!!!!! WE ARE GOING TO THE DOME!!!!!!!! YES!!!! WE ARE GOING TO STATE BABYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
I am a Wildcat fan, but I really think the team should have came home after the game. With money being short, it would have made sense. I listened to the game and they played their hearts out. GREAT SEASON WILDCATS !!!!!!
A few years ago, it was determined that the traffic on 131 didn’t warrant a bypass around Constantine, MI so why spend all that money on a bypass?
That is My grandpa
That is awesome…but I live in Sumner, WA…do you have an address/procedure where i can send a blanket this winter???? Why isn’t the military covering this?
I am very happy this man is back should spark up the team a little.
it would be helpful if you would give us a number that actually would put us in contact with Jeff. Also it would be nice if you would put costs on here too…. thanks!
I see we have a phone number for Jeff at the end of the story. Go ahead and give him a call regarding costs for the various courses.
the presa was not specifically bred for fighting, it was originally bred for guarding of castles/farms and holding/herding farm animals. I’ve been breeding Presa’s for years, they carry a docile temperament (yes, they can get aggressive, just as they can be adorable.. just the same as any other k-9), proper training is a must.. undeniably one of the top guard dogs for your home you can purchase !!
the presa is nothing like the “pitbull”.. only true similarities are looks, and even those aren’t exact, being thst the presa is much taller (2.5 ft) and weighs much more (115-160lbs)..
I can go on & on
This sewer system is such a joke, for future growth is how it is being sold. The only people that are getting a vote in this are the lake property owners. I own property across the street from the lake and have been paying taxes for 30 years. I haven’t recieved a survey card yet so I guess I am not included in the 250 people that are being asked for an opinion. This is funny cause 250 people are about the amount that live directly on the lake, lets survey the total tax payers that are effected by this farce.
If any of you went to the meeting at Moorepark Elementry School you could obviously hear that the majority didn’t agree. Some silly woman got up and tried to sell some story about her grandfather not wanting the lake polluted. I would like to see were she lived and how she has been contributing to the sewage problem. Her house is probably over sized for the lot it is in. That story she tried to sell was the best Dale Carnegie story I ever heard,
great, just what the city needs.
well the way i look at it. it should be up to the bar owner and the people that go to that bar to vote. not the goverment. there are non smoking bars for you crying non smokers please go to them. and the indians and the 3 casinos in detroit are going to be the winners. and for the meatheads that say this wont hurt business your full of it. them 20 indian casinos are where the smokers in them cities are going to go not to a non smoking bar. wake up michigan.
i loved her alot she waz the best grandma
Wake up congressman…………the Great Lakes are our largest reservoir of fresh water in the WORLD!!
Asian carp have ruined some great idaho fly fishing streams by infiltrating the headwaters for spawning. After they get in the stream systems they fill up all of the big holes and runs in the stream and displace the native trout. Preserving the Great Lakes from these fish is important because once they are in, good luck getting them out!
I hope you beat it. I’m from Central Ohio and we beat one down here. They talk about some perceived milk shortage that doesn’t exist. Make no mistake, the number one product from these places in manure, NOT milk. Vreba Hoff has more environmental spills and fines that they can’t pay. This company is in serious financial trouble and if they can cut corners, you bet they will. Also, think about your water supply. A lactating cow drinks about 40 gallons of water per DAY. That’s ONE cow. They wanted to put 5000 of them down here. It would have generated more waste than the entire city of Dayton, OH. CAFO’s are bad for everyone including the animals. I’m no environmentalist, but I prefer family farms where the owners have been here for years and have a genuine interest in the community where they live.
So sad to hear the news about Deb. I will always have such fond memories of her and the way she treated people. She was caring, helpful and always had a smile on her face. She absolutely loved what she did! My thoughts and prayers go out to all her friends, family and co-workers…she was an incredible person!
Darryl was one of he most popular and memorable players that Victoria has ever had. He always brought excitement and gave it 100%. The opposition always had to aware when Darryl was on the ice as he could produce some crushing checks. We miss him here but wish him the best of luck.
Mary and family – I am so sorry to hear of your husband and father’s passing. Mary, I’m not sure if this is Mary Moline I use to work with at Glabman Paramount. If it is, e-mail me, and if it is not, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I’ll keep you in my prayers, Edna
Karen and family – So sorry to hear of your loss. Keeping you in my prayers. Edna
Someone finally heard this childs voice.
God bless you, Calista.
Thank you to the Jury.
this bill is so dumb. People were stupid with their money before now they have more room to be even more stupid with their money.
Alison and Tim,
We are so sorry for your loss. We are thinking of you. Take care.
Craig, Julie and Paige McCollister
If you need a new passport (or even if you need new pages added to the back of an existing passport) now is definitely the time to do it!
The normal slow wheels of Congress could destroy our Great Lakes. We need an immediate shutdown of the manmade access to Lake Michigan. Close the gates before the greatest natural freshwater system in the world is reduced to one huge carp pond.
get with the program… hello!
It’s amazing what lengths people will go to for money. I read read about thw new top ten scams of 2010 at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2698673/top_10_online_scams_of_2010.html Very informative.
I can’t imagine how stupid people who would fall for this stuff.
I get them from Nigeria almost daily.
Send money to get the money moved to your account. Just a hundred or so dollars and some millions will be deposited into your bank account.
Give us the account No. and info so we can transfer.
stop asian carp in great lakes

Thanks for the article. I am currently located in Helena, and was unfamiliar with this performer. I’ll check her out now!
The state can’t balance the budget, yet we continue to spend tax money on projects that duplicate services. We already have guardrails. The new system costs car owners more in repairs when we come in contact with these new barriers, plus we have to pay more in taxes to put them up. If you can’t stop this project at least put the barriers down the middle of the median to keep vehicles from crossing over. This would also greatly reduce the damage the new barriers cause because they would be further off the road.
I truly feel very bad for anyone who has had a loved one killed or injured by a vehicle crossing over the median and hitting a vehicle going in the opposite direction, but I seriously wonder if the frequency/percentage of that happening is great enough to spend so much money on something that seems to have such a low probability of happening. Folks, if you’re tired of your taxes going up to pay for such boondoggles, tell your state representatives you’ve had enough.
Stupidity shouldn’t be license to spend our tax money. That person that sued McDonald’s because the hot coffee burned their legs should have been thrown out of court right along with their lawyer. Our planning commissions seem to be so afraid of someone suing them that they are willing to go to any expense to avoid litigation and it is at our expense. Please tell your planning commissions to stop the madness. Hold people accountable for their own actions.
Use that two million dollars to put our police and firefighters back on the job.
I live in Michigan and this is the reason why im switching to those new Crown7 electric cigarettes. These bans are just ludacris!!! Just one more way the government can tell you how to live!!!
To Riverfest Idol Committee and/or Kathy Pendergrass,

I really feel that this child was let down in every way. She lived in a negative environment that seemed to show no positive reinforcement, and there was no compassion for this precious child with special needs. From what I have observed during the trial they acted as though they were inconvenienced by the child (Calista),because she had special needs. She didn’t seem to have the pleasure of experiencing a loving, caring home that cattered to someone with her special needs. That was very unfortunate for her and I just hope she is at peace now.
God Bless You Calista!
I look forward to Tom updating euthanasia practices at his shelter St. Joseph County Animal Control. St. Joseph is only one of 11 county shelters in Michigan still using a barbaric gas chamber to kill unwanted cats and dogs.
Injectable euthanasia is the most rapid and reliable method of performing euthanasia.
Isn’t St.Joseph County still using gas to euthanize? Why would that county’s animal control director be representing Michigan’s Animal Control? They are one of very few still using that inhumane way to euthanize.
I appreciate the concern which is been bill. The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone.
I will be in tomorrow (Wed. 7/14) to meet Misty. I have been in touch with ARF to see if I can afford to adopt her if she takes to me.
leave the kids alone mr lori. we already have enough laws on the books. at some point we need to draw the line and i think that time came and past some time ago. the texting while driving ban is a perfect example of an unnecessary law. people should know better, and if they don’t, police already had every right to pull the person over for driving carelessly. all this bill will do is put more young drivers on the road at the same time since they can no longer carpool with their buddies. stop wasting our tax dollars with this crap!
number one reason you don’t talk to police – there are thousands of laws on the books and if you’re like me, you only know a tiny percentage of them, so the last thing you want to do is open your mouth and unknowingly incriminate yourself. too many freakin laws people…
here is some news the reason that Kellie Pickler and Chris Young cancelled their concerts in St. Joseph Mi at the fair is because they had prior contracts with Rascall Flatts. funny thing is the tour is being called the unstoppable tour. you know I love all of these singers trully but I cant imagine cancelling on true die hard fans, who are willing to sit in the rain and watch these performers. Atleast thats what the past residence of St. Joseph county mi have done to see their stars. it always rains on fair week
Maybe rascall flatts should perform with all of them and make it up to the poor folks of michigan. but I dont think there is enough money in it for them.
Home town artists seems like they want everyone to believe this but they dont want anything to do with them once they make the big time…
love them all just wish they had a heart.
I worked with Vicki at Heartland – Three Rivers. She was a hard worker – very kind to the residents. She will be missed.
I have you’ll in my prayers and my conpasion goes out to you’ll. Trust Jesus and He will help you thru this.

We love you Dominic… NEVER expected anything like this! You were a beautiful little boy and not one night has gone by that we havent thought of u or shed a tear… See you Friday.
There’s nothing worse than smoke in parking lots. It interferes with car exahust fumes.
Why don’t all smokers switch to those new Crown7 electric cigarettes I keep seeing all over the place??? Apparently people can smoke them wherever they want without having to worry about the smoking bans because they only emit water vapor!
he was the father of 4 a son and a brother my cousin and he was a good man

I live next door to one of these Outdoor Wood Burning Boilers/Furnaces, the smoke from this boiler fills my house 24×7 for 6 consecutive months. I have lost my right to clean air in my own house. See this boiler in action on YouTube just search for “DirtyAviston”.
It sure is nice to see such a beautiful building going up in our neighborhood.
Was wondering if you are taking any applications for employment? It would be a privilege to work in such a nice environment.
I have tried to locate Mark’s mom. Hi, I’m Chris’ mom, Cindy. I remember Mark as a kind-hearted, loving and caring gentleman. He and I spoke mid-summer and he said “I’m really sorry for your loss.” You see, my son of 21.5 years passed through this life in December; it’s only been ten months. I’d like to speak with you but first would like to know this is even going to be read by you. Please contact me at the e-mail address I left.
Mark was one of a kind and what a true gentelman you raised when it mattered most to a mother of only one son, to offer words of kindness and sincerity. We spoke of the Lord and he had lots of questions. I want you to know I know your pain and I grieve along with you. Please contact me.
Congratulations to all of the teams! Good luck!
That would be awesome! Hopefully it comes soon!

It’s unfortunate that things like this keep happening here in Three Rivers.
This is unfortunate. I was hopeful that more would get out and do their part.
How horrible. That poor child.
I had no idea this happened. I heard the sirens last night, but didn’t realize where they were headed. Hopefully they find out what went on!
How sad. Hopefully he recovers quickly.
if anyone knows mr philips & how he’s doing, plz let me know, my partner & i were his paramedics.

This is a step in a positive direction!
Welcome winter! Drive safely everyone!
Good luck Wildcats!
I am just wondering when you will be accepting applications for employment @ your new Three Rivers location. I am looking forward to shopping @ your new store & possibly working for you also!
Hi, I am a 58 yr. old paramedic attending a community college in southeastern Michigan. I am currently applying for nursing school in the fall of 2011. I feel quite vulnerable when I have to leave my handgun in my vehicle when attending classes. I am quite pleased to discover that Sen. Richardville is introducing this legislation, and pray it will be passed into law. The fact that the terrorists are going to carry out their objective, and have in the past, leaving psychological scars on those who have to endure the outcome, should not occur in this country. The law-abiding citizens who have achieved the right to carry concealed, can only add to the security of the colleges in Michigan. The students who were involved in these terroristic events (dead or alive ) must have felt totally helpless as the tragedy unfolded in front of them. The chance of more of these horrific occurances may or may not happen in the future, hopefully with this kind of legislation adopted, the outcome will give students a chance to protect themselves and their fellow students. Thank you for all you are trying to accomplish in the name of self preservation for the students and future of tomorrow.
Hopefully they get the one near my house!
How do I get involved in this to volunteer? I love animals & I also own all different kinds of animals. “Animals Are People, Too!” ya know!
Hopefully this is resolved or minimized soon!
I am so glad that everyone is okay. This is very sad.
This is sickening. Why would you even think that was okay?
Although still tragic, I’m glad that the cause was only a lamp and not anything more.
This is so sad. That poor man.
when will u be accepting applications/hiring???
It would be weird to see that space without that building. It’s rather costly though!
It would be really great to stop reading headlines like this, but until the problem is resolved, we will continue to see them. It’s such a huge issue in this county, and that is unfortunate.
This is absolutely horrible. My thoughts and prayers are with the family right now.
I’m very happy to hear this!
Margaret and I would like to express our deepest to the Halverson Family- Lord be with them
Sorry to hear about Phil. He handled the funerals for my mother Hazel Anderson and my Grandmother, Mary Bridgman. Doris was my English teacher in 9th grade. (I think it was her first kob out of college. Doug Halverson is a friend of mine and one of my classmates from the class of 1948.
How can I find out about putting in a bid for a HealthTrac yearly membership?
Scary! Meth is a very dangerous substance…I wish it would just cease to exist.
I don’t like this idea at all. I think it would reduce the rights that the consumer has. Many stores inaccurately price things everyday, this would make it that much easier for them.
Michigan legislature needs a part-time session. a 6 month assembly. There is no need for a year assembly. There are richer states with part-time legislature. These include all of the following:Texas,Ohio, and Illinois.
This bug is a threat to US food crops. It has cause crop losses in some orchards at 25 to 100% and fruit crops aren’t the only things it eats. There are dozens of tree and field crops that it loves. See this article for more info: http://pestcontrolcenter.com/blog/?p=678
Awesome job Carter!
That seems like a pretty hefty increase.
Thanks WRCI for adding the Lady Cats to your broadcast schedule. I have always enjoyed listening to Tim Sylvain with Mark in basketball or Jason in Football. With over 20 years experience in covering Wildcat Athletics Tim is a true historian when it comes to Three Rivers sports. Keep up the good work.
i Hope You Win Today.
I hope that everyone is okay!
This is interesting to read.
People really need to stop trying to out-chase the police. It never ends well.
Hopefully everyone has their power back soon!
I work for Indiana & Michigan Power Company, and am happy to report that all customers affected by the storm had power restored by midnight last night.
Thanks to all our customers for their understanding and for the supportive comments they had for the crews who worked in such challenging conditions to get the power back on.
It’s a scary time for everyone. Hopefully it can be figured out.
Her poor parents.
How scary! I hope all are okay.
Go Girls!! I hope it’s on the radio!!!!
I hope you find a good home soon Colonel!
I just seen Larry’s picture on TV,and I’m almost sure I worked with Larry. I used to work for Bracy&Jahr consturtion co.If it is the same Larry he’s a super nice guy. I can’t say enough in how I feel about his loss,I really feel for his whole family.Larry if you read this get back with me if you can . May God Bless You and Your Loved Ones.

Awesome job! You deserve to be honored!
Hopefully it’s over soon!
I am very glad that he was found guilty!
Good work ladies!
Break a leg!
I am glad that this will continue. I am sure it’s very convenient for people.
Interesting. My dog will hate it, but he’ll live.
How horrifying! That poor child!
Hopefully this helps as many people as the Three Rivers one does!
Dear Kathy, Richard and Sharon,
Heartfelt prayers of comfort to you at the passing of your dad. He was such a generous and kind soul, and the measure of integrity. His presence will be missed, but his essence remains with all of us.
Blessings to you.
To the family of Blaine Rabbers:
Ray and I want to express our sincere condolences in your loss. Blaine was a wonderful and generous man. Ray and Judi Nelson
Thank you for your recent story on the use of gas chamber euthanasia at the St. Joseph County Animal Control shelter. However, I did want to point out that while Tom Miller, director of St. Joseph County Animal Control, states that “…it costs about $2.50 to gas up to four animals, while an injection costs $5 per animal,” in fact a recent study by the American Humane Association found that the use of Euthanasia by Injection (EBI) is not only more humane, it is less costly than gas for shelters to use.
Using data from an animal sheltering organization in North Carolina, American Humane Association found that the number of dogs and cats euthanized in 2007 was 5,427. The study shows that the cost to use carbon monoxide gas is $4.98 per animal. The cost to use carbon monoxide poisoning without a tranquilizer is $4.66 per animal. The cost to use EBI, however, was only $2.29 per animal. Cost figures from North Carolina are comparable to other states, including Michigan. Thus, the assessment was that EBI is more cost effective than gas.
I have attached the cost analysis worksheet with more detailed information about this study, as well as a factsheet with information about the use of gas euthanasia in Michigan shelters. I also invite you to visit Michiganders for Shelters Pets, at http://www.voiceless-mi.org/m4sp, to learn about our campaign to end this inhumane method of euthanasia.
Thank you so much, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at 517-515-3839 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.

What a disgusting attitude you have, Tom Miller. Please join the rest of us in the 21st century and stop inhumanely gassing animals. I hope the citizens (who pay for Tom Miller’s salary and the painful and long deaths of each animals killed by gas) stand up against this atrocity. Time for a new animal control officer in St. Joseph County!
The article quotes Miller as saying he would “take up the financial offer” if a law is passed to outlaw gassing. Say what? Hmmmm, does he mean when the county by law has to stop gassing animals and has to use lethal injection, then he would take the incentive of $5,000 to stop gassing the animals at the pound? What exactly does the word “incentive” mean to Miller anyway? Isn’t an incentive something which is given to someone to either do or not do something voluntarily?
This is a sad day when someone who is responsible for sheltering animals has to resort to this sadistic behavior. We are fourth from the bottom on the list of shelters in the state for adoptions–I don’t like what I see-I will be calling my commissioner. HSUS will come in to help set up a new system, American Humane will buy back the gas chamber, ARF will pay for injections if they are needed–why is AC not using every available channel to change the current system?? They are not animal friendly –and there a lot people out there willing to help, so what’s the problem? Let’s work together to solve this.
Half of all animals who enter shelters do not leave alive. I think the least we can do as a society is make their deaths peaceful and humane.
But for those who only care about humans, you should know the shelter workers are put in danger by the gas chamber. One of the costs Tom Miller is not including in his assessment is the maintenance involved with the chamber. An old or improperly maintained gas chamber can leak poisonous gas and even explode.
The gas chamber is a cruel and dangerous method of euthanasia. St. Joe County would be better off without it.
I was really hoping that legislation that fizzled in committee in December would have passed, out lawing the use of gas in all Michigan Animal Controls’. There has been an arrangement established with my help between Tom Miller and Dr. Sands’ to humanely euthanize unadoptable dogs due to aggression, health or age at Dr. Sands’ Crossroads Veterinary Hospital. 2,000 pounds of the chemical needed for this operation to begin was purchased through Dr. Sands’. I was under the impression that it was working out smoothly and that soon we would be asked to purchase more of the chemical. For various reasons a dog being euthanized humanely is still a rare occurance. If you are interested in animal welfare you may want to address Tom Miller, of animal control and Dr. Sands’ of why, after the chemicals were ordered and PAID for so few dogs are receiving lethal injection rather than carbon monoxide gas. Denise Kastner
Once it is requred by Law to switch to injections, Why would Tom Miller expect the $5,000 offerd by AHS…..seems that once the law is in effect, you should not get anything for having to switch as you would be required BY LAW to use it anyway.
I think St. Joe Co.needs to do what is humane for the animals and not use the gas.
It is bad enough that we have to kill the animals at all.
Tom Miller have you even looked into the cost. I bet you have not sat down and done a study this year. Maybe it is time for a new leadership in Animal Control.
First of all I want to say thank you to Jill Fritz. Thank you for the information about the costs to euthanize.
And second of all, I DO NOT understand Mr. Miller!! He is being offered $5,000 toward a new way to euthanize….and he won’t take it??? What is wrong with him?! How has he been the animal control officer for this long? I also believe it is time for a new AC officer.
To: Mr. Miller- please, please, PLEASE if you care, or have ever cared out these lost abandoned pets, please change the way they are put down. It’s bad enough they have had to suffer physical and emotional pain from being tossed aside like garbage, why make their last moments on earth painful and scary as well?
It is amazing that gas chambers were outlawed for prisons because they represent cruel and unusual punishment because of the practice of gassing is inhumane.
An animal gets lost or turned in and not claimed we punish them in the most in humane way we can. Way to go Tom Miller!!
This practice of gassing is despicable. It is not a question of medical technology or funding. The only impediment to the animals’ humane demise is Mr. Tom Miller. This is an example of small town government gone wrong. Resistance to change stands in the way of humane euthanasia. Write to your county commissioners at
PO Box 277
Centreville MI, 49032
And don’t wait.
I have been told by someone who has been in the vicinity of the St. Joseph County Animal Control that the terrible agonizing sounds from the animals being gassed are almost more than can be borne. That doesn’t seem humane to me.
Let’s go a step beyond humane euthanasia. We need to work together as a community to make destroying these wonderful animals unnecessary. Our county needs a new facility. I am working on a foster care network to facilitate getting the animals out of AC, to the vet, s/n operations and into foster care to prepare them for their forever homes. I need your help, there will be openings for volunteer foster homes, transporters, and office workers. I am sure that every single person commenting on this news article has a talent that can be used to help the animals that are in the county’s custody. It is useless to play the blame game. Join me to take positive action. Feel free to contact me via e mail email@example.com.
With the incredible efforts of the volunteers of the Animal Rescue Fund for St. Joe County, they have saved so many animals from being “gassed”. Inmates are sent from the county jail to work at animal control and I doubt they enjoy this part of their job either. No choice there either. Tom Miller actually seems like a compassionate man. But, his compassion is misplaced. He lets the animal owners of St.Joe County get away with far too much. Perhaps if the abusive, cruel pet owners could be gassed. The ones who have choices are not making the right ones. We need stricter laws, judges and prosecutors who will follow through against the ones who put the animals in this situation. IF I wanted to die, I have a choice to go out with a bang or go quietly. Dear god, don’t let me end up at animal control. 2011—really?
It breaks my heart to think that the dogs and cats in our county that are unfortunate enough to end up at Animal Control are being tended to by someone that has to be ordered BY LAW to be compassionate. I’m glad this is finally out in the open and the citizens of St. Joseph county know the mindset of Tom Miller and others at Animal Control. As caring, taxpaying citizens, we need our voices heard and we need change!
The enforcement of regulations set by entities other than the St. Joseph County Animal Control may not be performed by the St. Joseph County Animal Control.
The St. Joseph County Animal Control does not enforce pet or animal rules, provisions and/or regulations set by neighborhood charters, apartment complexes or mobile home parks.
Where to start……….
I think this is awful. All animals deserve a chance. My niece talked her mom into taking a dog in to find it a home that was headed to this awful place. I adopted this dog & she is wonderful. I wish everyone with a pet whether it be a dog or cat would get it spayed/neutered. I am a part of Animal Rescue Fund and anyone needing help can contact us and we will help them so there is no more unwanted Puppies, Dogs, Kittens & Cats to end up at Animal Control. Besides eliminating unwanted pets it helps prevent some types of cancers also. I_Photograph_Pets60@yahoo.com To get help with spay/ neutering I will get you names & phone numbers of who to contact.
Please check the facts in the first two statements quoted in this report. I know from talking with the trustees from the St Joe County jail that they put the animals into the gas chamber. They are normally not even supervised. Please ask for the name of the county vet that alledgedly goes over to animal control and places the animal into the chamber.
What is the name of the vet and does he or she have a schedule as to when they come?
Also to add, maybe it is time for a different vet and if it was so easy why do we give injections on death row? They say it is more humane. Is it just humane for the death row inmates and not the animals?
I am not sure how anyone could reasonably defend using the gas chamber over “lethal injection.”
I would recommend that those who are opposed to the use of the gas chamber (which by the way only a minimal number of Michigan counties still use) consider contacting State Senator Rick Jones (R) who was a sponsor to House Bill 6042 in the 2010 session. That bill would have outlawed the use of gas chamber for pets. Senator Jones is now the Majority Caucus chair!
According to “Michigan Capitol Confidential” (A News Services for the people of Michigan from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy), July 11, 2010 , Jones was quoted as saying “How some counties in Michigan euthanize their pets can give the state a black eye and hurt tourism.”
Hopefully, with active support from constituents, the Michigan legislature will finally pass a bill this year!
Someone might want to check this out for themselves…because unless something has changed recently, it’s simply not true. I’d like to know when this new practice was put into place with the vet. When (what date) did a vet start putting the dogs in the chamber? And who is this vet? I’d like to know the name of him/her. This must be something that just took effect because it’s always been the trustees from the jail who were responsible for that job along with feeding the animals and cleaning their cages. I’ve been there on days when I’ve been told not to go in the garage because they were putting animals down. And I applaud those trustees who really cared for the animals like their own. They HATED gassing them in the chamber and it’s my understanding that it’s not always one at a time, either. Put a bunch in and turn it on. Take them out..stick them in a plastic bag and throw them in a freezer to await a trip to the crematorium. It might just be time for new blood at Animal Control and ones who really care about the animals. It’s pretty sad that there are workers at Animal Control who don’t even like animals and can’t stand a barking dog. Dogs in quarantine, which is close to the office, who bark too much get sprayed in the face with a water bottle so as to not upset employees. So,all you humans tell all your dog friends that if they are going to get lost and they end up at Animal Control…don’t bark or you’ll get a face full of water, and your days might be numbered. Barking dogs are not liked well there…imagine that…a dog who barks, especially one who is nervous about being there in the first place. I believe it’s time for some changes.
Oh, YES! I just talked with State Senator Jones’ office. It is my understanding that after May, Senator Jones plans to re-introduce a bill to outlaw the use of the gas chamber!!!
Pease, after this bill is introducted, contact your representatives (both state house and state senate) and ask that they join in supporting this bill to its final passage into law! : )
Mr. Miller, please name the veterinarian that is under contract with the county to perform euthanizations, and please publish that written, signed contract between he/she and the county.
Give us facts, Mr. Miller. How often does this veterinarian come to the shelter to perform euthanasia by method of gassing?
According to the Michigan Department of Agriculture, in 2009 intake was 1134, 315 adoptions, 176 return to owner, and 356 were euthanized. Your Animal Control is listed with a 43% save rate, all public record.
What are your statistics regarding cats?
I have a wood burner in my neighborhood and I hate it! There are times when I walk out to get my newspaper and come in with my hair saturated with a smoke smell. I agree they should be banned.
Somehow, I find this whole news announcement rather odd. Didn’t the city just enthusiastically endorse spending money for a skateboard park?
Unfortunately, as my memory serves me the “petting zoo” ( or actually in general the “park animals”) have been the target of cut backs off and on for decades. Perhaps before I die, the issue of caring for and maintaining the well being of those animals which the city “accumulates” at Scidmore Park will either be guaranteed without question (by being written into the city’s charter) OR the city will once and for all rid themselves of ALL those animals which are held “captive” at Scidmore Park by placing them in reputable and regulated animal sanctuaries throughout the nation!
In a burning path
