Community forum for millage request

Fewer than a dozen people attended a community forum Tuesday to hear more about Centreville Public School’s upcoming millage request.

Led by Superintendent Rob Kuhlman at Centreville Elementary School, the forum covered details related to the district’s Nov. 5 request for 2.95 additional mills to generate $12.8 million over a 15-year period for building and technology improvements.

The list of building improvements at both Centreville Elementary and the district’s jr./sr. high building is lengthy, Kuhlman said, but new roofs at both schools and its agricultural-education building are high priorities. Other upgrades include boiler replacement, secure entrances, ceiling and lighting replacement, new windows and a new technology infrastructure to replace one that is currently 10-years-old.

District officials said the building improvements would allow for new mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems to operate at current energy-efficiency standards. In addition, the replacement of windows and lighting will improve the energy standard of the district’s facilities, Kuhlman said.

Future community forums are Sept. 24, and Oct. 8 and 22, at the high school. They start at 7 p.m.
