Preliminary testimony in Locey case

November 7, 2013 by Administrator

Testimony was provided by more than a dozen witnesses Wednesday in the preliminary-examination hearing of Andy Brown.

Brown, 37, is accused of fatally shooting Sturgis-area CPA David Locey last month at Locey’s Sherman Township office.

In all, 13 people testified before District Court Judge Jeff Middleton, with more testimony to be provided today. Middleton will then determine whether enough evidence exists to warrant sending the issue to trial.

Locey’s office manager Joy Stevens said Brown and Locey – the day before Locey was shot and killed – met to discuss claims of Brown allegedly embezzling money from a client. Stevens said Locey indicated at the conclusion of the meeting that he would get back to Brown regarding the status of his employment with the company.

Brown, who is being held on a charge of murder, remains at the St. Joseph County Jail, with bond set at $2 million.
