Northwoods League baseball comes to Kazoo

Baseball fans in Kalamazoo will learn the name of their new Northwoods League team Friday night during an unveiling at Homer Stryker Field. The team logo and some of the players and staff will also be introduced, according to reports. Kalamazoo Baseball LLC held a name the team competition that drew over 300-different suggestions and over 3-thousand votes to pick the winner. Battle Creeks team, the Bombers, is in the same league. The Northwoods League is a summer baseball league comprised of teams of the top college players from across the nation and North America. All players in the league must have NCAA eligibility remaining in order to participate. Players are not paid (this preserves their NCAA eligibility). Each team is operated similar to a professional minor league team, providing players an opportunity to play under the same conditions using wooden bats, minor league specification baseballs, experiencing overnight road trips, and playing nightly before fans in a stadium.  (MRN)
