The Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority was named one of three recipients statewide in a competition staged by the Michigan Main Street program.
DDA Director Christy Trammell was notified Tuesday that the community was accepted into the Select Level of the program, which is overseen by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
Trammell said the Michigan Main Street program is a community-driven, comprehensive strategy that encourages economic development through historic preservation in ways appropriate for today’s marketplace. It uses a four-point approach that incorporates components of economic restructuring, design, organization and promotion.
Winning communities receive five years of training through the Michigan Main Street program.
A critical development as a result of the award is the impending hiring of a Main Street DDA director, who will relieve Trammell of her duties in that capacity. Trammell will resume her role as executive director of the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce.
