Jim Abrams, 82

James Wilton Abrams, age 82, of Three Rivers, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Riverview Manor. He was born near Decatur, MI on Oct. 21, 1931 the son of the late Maurice and LaVada (Drullenger) Abrams. He attended the country school across the road from the family farm and graduated from Decatur High School. Jim served in the Air Force from 1951-53 and was stationed in Morocco and North Africa. He was a life-long farmer who had also worked at Continental Can Co. He was the first employee hired at Lasco Industries in Three Rivers where he worked for three years and was instrumental in setting up the plant. Jim was the maintenance and grounds supervisor for White Pigeon Schools, and later at Three Rivers Schools, retiring in 1995.

Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the Three Rivers Lions Club and a former member of the Elks Club. He was also a former member of the Three Rivers Police Department Auxiliary. Jim loved farming and being outdoors, fishing, travelling, and woodworking.

Jim is survived by his wife, the former Mary (Foss) Brewer; their children, Kathy (Jerry) Siemen of Holland, Bob (Cheryl) Brewer of Three Rivers, and Jean Brewer of Macon, GA; three daughters by his fist wife, Terese (Joseph) Tifer, Tina Spurgeon, and Tamara Sikes; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren (and two on the way); and a brother, Charles (Barbara) Abrams of Coloma.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday June 11, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob Nystrom officiating. Military committal will take place in Hamilton Cemetery near Decatur at approximately 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to either the First United Methodist Church, or to Southern Care Hospice.
