Raymond H. Sloan, Jr., 79, of Portage, was born in Detroit on June 18, 1935. The first born to Raymond H. Sloan, Sr. and Hazel Lucile Evans died Aug. 10, 2014. The family moved back to Three Rivers in 1943 where he graduated in 1954. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, married Sandra L. Miller August 1958, retired from Upjohn in 1992 after 33 years of service. His wife and daughters, Nancy Hofstra (Robert) of Marcellus and DeAnna Sloan-Phares (Dan) of Comstock, survive. Also, sisters Janice Mohney (Richard) and Paula Edson (Dennis), Gordon Miller (Martha), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney R. Sloan, and his parents. At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Avink Funeral Home Cremation Society in Schoolcraft on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of SW Michigan or CFC International.
