Brown sentenced to at least 39 years in prison

Despite maintaining his innocence, Andy Brown was sentenced Friday to serve at least 39 years in prison for killing Sturgis CPA David Locey last October.

The sentence was issued by St. Joseph County Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman, who assigned Brown between 37 1/2 and 75 years for second-degree murder, and two years for felony use of a firearm. Stutesman ordered the terms be served concurrently.

Before a packed courtroom that included Locey’s family members as well as Brown’s wife and parents, Brown acknowledged previous mistakes in his professional career but said he did not murder Locey.

Locey’s son, Jeff, spoke on behalf of the family. He said he regrets Brown was not found guilty of first-degree murder, a sentiment echoed by prosecutor John McDonough.

The location of Brown’s incarceration was not established immediately after the sentencing.
