Four St. Joseph County schools show increase in student enrollment

Four of the nine school districts in St. Joseph County saw an increase in student enrollment this fall compared to a year ago.
The unofficial headcount conducted two weeks ago showed Centreville, Sturgis, Three Rivers and White Pigeon all had gains in their enrollment. White Pigeon Community Schools led the way with 35 additional students for an enrollment of 792.
Centreville saw the next-largest increase:  21 more students for an enrollment of 840.
Three Rivers added 11 students and now has 2,695 pupils. Sturgis, meanwhile, remains the largest district in the county with 3,330 students, five more than it had a year ago.
Burr Oak Community Schools saw the biggest drop, going from 280 students a year ago to 251 currently.
Colon, Mendon, Nottawa and Constantine all had minimal losses in student population.
