Sturgis company to receive grant

State Rep. Matt Lori has announced a Michigan Strategic Fund grant that will enable a Sturgis auto-supply company to expand operations and create jobs.
Lori said Summit Polymers Inc. will expand its existing operations in Sturgis, Portage and Vicksburg as a result of the $800,000 grant. The company plans to invest $7.3 million into the local economies and create 198 jobs.
Lori said reforms made during the past four years to make Michigan more attractive to business result in more jobs for Sturgis.
Summit Polymers chose Michigan over competing sites in Kentucky, Ohio and Missouri, he added.
In addition to the performance-based grant, the city of Sturgis has offered support to the project in the form of property-tax abatements.
