Harold Abbs, 90

Harold Clayton ( Tuffy) Abbs passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, Mich. He was born April 11, 1924, in Sturgis, the son of Theodore and Gertrude ( Adams) Abbs. He was one of 11 children — five brothers and five sisters. He married Isabelle King in 1951. She passed away on June 26, 1996. He went to the Army from 1945-1947. After returning from war, he began working for A. H. Perfect. While working there, he became acquainted with Isabelle King in 1947 and they married in 1951. This business closed in 1947. From there he went to work for Printers Incorporated as a printers devel. He was not there long before he went to work for Trans- O- Gram (a toy factory) located on Grobhiser Street in Sturgis. That building is now occupied by Federal Paper.

While at the toy factory, he was in charge of the shipping department. They in turn permanently closed in 1970. He then continued to South Bend, Ind., to work for G.C. Murphy as a material handler from 1970-1977 and then for his final job he went to work for his wife in 1977 in their home at A & K Enterprises.

Surviving are his four sons, Scott ( Kathy) Abbs of Syracuse, Ind., Monte ( Candace) Abbs of Sturgis, Perry ( Karen) Abbs of Grand Rapids and Ron (Ruby) Abbs of Sturgis; one brother, Kenny Abbs of Punta Gorda, Fla. He also has 15 grandchildren, Natalie ( Scott) Boland, Gregory ( Kristin) Abbs, Michelle, Chad ( Marissa), Dustin, Nicholas, Joshua, Craig, Brittany, Katlin, Isaac, Sheena, Taylor, Ashley and Jacob Abbs; three great grandchildren, Randy Boland, Quintin and Pierce Abbs.

Visitation is from 5- 8 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, where services are at 11 a. m. Wednesday. His final resting place will be in the Abbs Mausoleum at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sturgis.

Arrangements were handled by the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon.
