TR High School teacher to be charged with embezzlement

A charge of embezzlement has been authorized by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office against a Three Rivers High School teacher accused of allegedly taking thousands of dollars from the school.

According to WWMT, the Three Rivers Police Department has been investigating Sara Freeman, a language arts teacher at the school.

In her additional capacity as yearbook advisor, Freeman is suspected of keeping checks and cash payments intended for advertisements in the school’s annual publication, according to WWMT.

It further stated that Three Rivers Police suspect Freeman has allegedly taken at least $20,000 during her time as yearbook advisor, a period covering more than five years.

WWMT also reported that only $4,700 of about $21,000 has been deposited over that period. Furthermore, the company with which the school has its yearbook contract claims it is owed more than $31,000, WWMT stated.

The embezzlement charge was issued Tuesday and formal charges are expected to be made next week, according to WWMT, which also reported Freeman allegedly refused to discuss the issue with district administrators.
