Film incentives program may be ended

State Rep. Aaron Miller last week voted in favor of House Bill 4122, a measure to end the expenditure of taxpayer money to subsidize film and video production.
Miller said the film incentives program is a failed experiment that has not paid off, and there are more worthwhile ways to spend the $50 million set aside for film subsidies in the next budget.
The $50 million being spent on a small number of film jobs could be used to help fix crumbling roads and bridges, Miler said, calling the issue a matter of establishing priorities.
Miller said small businesses in the 59th District don’t get similar subsidies, and the film industry should not, either.
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
