Contract discussions begin for Centreville superintendent

With their shared agreement for superintendent officially dissolved Monday, members of the Centreville Board of Education have decided to begin contract discussions with Rob Kuhlman.
Kuhlman, who is in his fifth year as superintendent of Centreville and Mendon school districts, will not return to Mendon in the fall after its board last week voted 4-3 to not renew his contract.
Following more than an hour in closed session, Centreville’s school board decided it would like to retain Kuhlman as its school chief.
Scott Logan, vice president of the board, said the district last December committed to a renewal with Kulhman for the 2015-16 academic year. That agreement, however, was nullified with Monday’s vote to end the dual-superintendent arrangement.
In essence, Logan said, the district is starting over on Kuhlman’s contract.
Kuhlman’s current contract with the two districts expires June 30.
Mendon and Centreville equally share Kuhlman’s salary. With benefits, the expense is $161,510 this year.
Logan said Kuhlman appeared receptive to working with the board and remaining superintendent of the 840-student district.
Kuhlman declined to comment until after negotiations have concluded.
