Possible dog park for St Joseph County

St. Joseph County could be just a few months from having its first dog park.
Members of the St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Board this week gave its endorsement to the concept, explained Wednesday by parks and recreation director Jaymes MacDonald.
The proposed 4 1/2-acre park would be developed at the 150-acre Meyer Broadway Park in Fabius Township. MacDonald said he plans to bring the idea before the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners April 21 in hopes of securing the $6,620 necessary to create the canine-friendly area.
MacDonald said the perimeter of the proposed park would be enclosed with a five-foot horse fence. It would feature a few chain-link gates for access and the installation would be done by MacDonald and staff, he said.
He said a park employee in a newly constructed ranger station at Meyer Broadway’s entrance would collect the $4 daily admission, which would include entrance to the dog park. Season passes, good for any of the county’s parks in 2015, will be available for $20.
