MSU – Rate increase for room and board

It’s going to cost Michigan State University students more to live on the East Lansing campus next year. The MSU Board of Trustees Friday approved a $320 increase in room and board rates. MSU officials say the 3.5 percent increase will offset higher operating expenses and to help pay off debt from the top-to-bottom renovations of many residence and dining halls undertaken over the past decade. With the rate change, the residence hall double room rate for undergraduate students will increase $132 to $3,912 per year. The silver unlimited dining meal plan increases $188 to $5,562 per year. The increase means the total residence hall house and dining costs for next academic year will increase to $9,474. Rent in university apartments will also increase next year, 1 percent in Spartan Village and 2 percent in University Village. MSU’s rate is the fourth-most expensive among Michigan universities. Only the University of Michigan, Michigan Tech University and Ferris State are more expensive.  (MRN)
