Walk for Warmth organizer honored by Board of Commissioners

A Colon resident who spent decades organizing the annual Walk For Warmth fundraiser was honored Tuesday by the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.
Nancy Percival, who indicated this past February’s Walk For Warmth would be her last, received a resolution from the county commission recognizing her dedication to the event.
Walk For Warmth, staged for years at the county fairgrounds and more recently in Three Rivers, helps raise funds to benefit county residents unable to pay the full portion of their wintertime heating bills.
Commissioner Rick Shaffer, who has been an annual participant in the event, said the commission rarely awards resolutions. People of Percival’s caliber, however, are worthy of the acknowledgment.
The 2015 Walk For Warmth, which was renamed the Nancy Percival Walk For Warmth, raised $15,900, which includes a matching grant from Consumers Energy.
Michelle Williamson, chair of the Community Action board, also was on hand to present a certificate of acknowledgment to Percival.
