Recall petition drive was successful

Members of the group TR Cares have announced they were successful in securing the minimum number of signatures required to put a board of education recall question on the November ballot.

Sherrie Nowicki, who helped form and is the leader of TR Cares, said the signatures would be turned in to the county clerk’s office by 4 p.m. today, one hour before the deadline.

The minimum number of signatures on petitions to recall Waneta Truckey, Carl Barth and Mike Bosma was 1,165. Nowicki said the drive, which took place over a nine-day period, drew 1,421 signatures on Truckey’s petition, 1,404 against Barth and 1,347 signatures on Bosma’s petition.

The county clerk’s office will now be charged with verifying that every signature is from a registered voter who lives within the Three Rivers Community Schools district.

Truckey, Barth and Bosma have been singled out after the board’s April dismissal of athletic director Pete Anderson, dean of educational services Kevin Hamilton and middle school principal Bradley Coon.

Board members Pete Bennett, Diana DeGraff and Erin Nowak are immune from recall, as they are in the first year of their current terms. Nowicki, however, said TR Cares will begin the recall process against that trio in January.
