White Cane Days in Three Rivers
May 8, 2009 by WLKM
The Three Rivers Lions Club will hold its annual “White Cane Days” Friday and Saturday (May 8th & 9th) at two locations – Harding’s Friendly Market and Wal-Mart.
Members of the service club will exchange miniature “white canes” for donations. Money generated through the fundraising activity is used by the club to assist with eye examinations and glasses for needy residents of the Three Rivers area. The club expended approximately $7,000 during the 2007/2008 budget year for such assistance and is continuing to help at a time when there’s a growing need for such assistance.
Lions worldwide are noted for their sight conservation efforts and their work with the blind, a focus that dates back to 1925 when the late Helen Keller challenged Lions to become the “Knights of the Blind.”
