Eat local event planned

An opportunity to eat fresh and eat local will present itself during an annual event on tap this week.
Sponsored by the St. Joseph County Conservation District, the third annual Local Food Dinner will be staged starting at 6 p.m. Friday at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds.
Cost is $20 per person.
Carol Higgins, chair of the Centreville-based agency, said this year’s Local Food Dinner will once again include a presentation of appetizers, salad, main course and desert from food sources all within St. Joseph County.
Higgins said conservation district board members are hoping to draw up to 250 people this time.
The menu will be comprised of local cheese, fruit that includes strawberries and apples, rolls made by an Amish baker, potatoes and sweet corn, and chicken and beef, Higgins said.
The event will feature live music, door prizes and a silent auction.
Tickets are available at the door, and at Boundary Waters, Lowry’s in Sturgis and Three Rivers, and Corey Lake Orchards in Fabius Township.
