Community Action will hire workers
June 12, 2009 by WLKM
Community Action will be hiring approximately 14 new positions through an Application Day hosted by MichiganWorks! The Application Day will be Friday, June 19, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Community Action, a local human-service nonprofit, will be the recipient of $6.25 million for the federal Weatherization program from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. These funds will allow Community Action to weatherize approximately 895 homes for increased energy efficiency.
To increase Community Action’s workload also means a portion of that $6.25 million will go towards funding new jobs in the area.
“These [Recovery Act] funds will be doing their job two-fold,” said Sara Wallace, Director of Housing and Support Services for Community Action. “First, the expanded weatherization program is creating jobs in our area. Second, the weatherization program improves the quality of housing in the area and means a greater portion of those local incomes can be circulated in the community instead of paying high utility bills.”
Community Action will be looking to hire for the following positions: Weatherization Intake Coordinator, Intake Specialists, Assistant to the Director, Davis Bacon Auditor, Crew Leader, Quality Control Specialists, Warehouse Coordinator, Weatherization Inspectors and Office Assistant.
Interested applicants must apply in-person at one of the following MichiganWorks! locations on Friday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No applications will be accepted at Community Action office locations.
- Barry County – 535 West Woodlawn, Hastings, (269) 945-9545 ext. 144
- Branch County – 210 Vista Drive, Coldwater, (517) 278-0201
- Calhoun County (Albion/Homer area) – 101 N. Albion Street, Albion (517) 629-5852

MichiganWorks! will also accept applications in person from June 19 through June 23.
Community Action’s Weatherization Assistance Program provides free energy saving services to eligible families. These services could include installing insulation in walls/attics, window/door repairs, providing adequate venting in roofs, installing compact fluorescent bulbs, installing smoke detectors, testing all combustion appliances and other energy-saving minor home updates.
