Writer comments on Madoff sentence

One of Bernard Madoff’s “victims” announced that Justice had been done in his sentence of 150 years. I disagree. After liquidating all of his assets, Madoff should have been put up in a reasonable, middle class neighborhood and expected to work the rest of his natural life to repay his “victims”. On the other hand, the victims took a chance on risky investments. Some of the weeping losers actually admitted that they had given him ALL that they had. Any intelligent person, at least intelligent enough to amass a small fortune, should know you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. That advice goes WAY back – to Cervantes in Don Quixote!! Even Mark Twain ventured that if you “Put all your eggs in one basket, and – watch the basket”! They apparantly didn’t do that either. Sounds like contributory negligence to me. And now the people, including his pseudo “victims” get to pay for the room and board for the foreseeable future! Some justice.

Yeah, sympathy for some of these investors is definitely misplaced. This is a good article that explains why:

The thing that bothers me is that Madoff is being scapegoated for stealing money from people when that is exactly what banks and corporations did to get us into this crisis:
