The Three Rivers City Commission has scheduled a public hearing for its June 17th meeting on a request from Kadant Johnson for establishment of an Industrial Development District for the company’s property on Wood Street. Kadant Johnson is planning an investment of $600,000 in a new CNC machining center, related tooling equipment, and a reorganization of the shop layout. In a letter to the city, Greg Wedel, President of Kadant Johnson, said, “Together, these investments will give us a more competitive production facility and allow for the retention of 65 local manufacturing jobs.” In other business, the city commission:
• Indicated its willingness to work with the family of the late Richard Ward regarding a proposed extension of an airport ground lease for a second 20-year term
• Approved the expenditure of $120,000 from the Water/Sewer Fund to purchase radio read meters to measure water for water and sewer billing purposes
• And adopted a resolution allowing the city manager to act as “Certifying Officer” for a downtown façade grant and to sign the application for a grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority totaling nearly $230,000.
