Out and About for December 16th

December 16, 2008 by Matt Loker

Authority wanted to fine-tune the service to insure that any problems would be minimal. The Circle Line service will run Monday through Friday, starting at 7 A.M. and running until 5 P.M.  The service circuit will take one hour and will make sixteen stops along the route. Some of the stops include Wal-Mart, Meijer, TR Health Campus, Three Rivers Library, and the east parking lot in historic downtown Three Rivers. Circle Line bus stop signs will be posted.  Rides are one dollar per destination and tickets are available for purchase from the Circle Line bus driver and the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority. These one-dollar tickets are valid ONLY for the Circle Line bus. For more information, please contact the CTA at 273-7808.

The First United Methodist Church, 215 North Main, in Three Rivers, invites everyone to a free family Christmas movie this Thursday evening, December 18. This Holiday event takes place at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Christmas Shoes is a movie the entire family will enjoy. Along with the FREE movie, FREE popcorn and lemonade will be available. It’s another great way to get yourself in the Christmas spirit.

Last Thursday, the Vocal Music Department of Three Rivers High School and Middle School put on a performance that reassured me that my goose bumps were not dead. Under the direction of Joel Moore, these young people restored my faith, once again, in the youth of today, who will be the leaders of tomorrow. The students were dressed in their finest and, by looking at their faces, we could tell that they were having a good time. Kudos to the Sixth Grade Chorus for giving a memorable performance. It was amazing how well they performed with only about two weeks of rehearsals. All of the choirs were great, but probably the two highlights of the evening, for me anyway, were the Men of Aristocrats doing “Duke of Earl” and the finale of the evening, “The Hallelujah Chorus”, by the Aristocrats. I wasn’t the only one impressed, for they received a standing ovation. Please do yourself and me a favor. The next time you see Maestro Joel Moore, or any member of the Vocal Music Department, let them know how much you appreciate their work and also watch  for upcoming performances and make sure you  attend. Concerts such as this are normally FREE, and that’s something that is hard to find these days.

Speaking of music, if you enjoy music of the season, plan to attend two free instrumental concerts this week, both at the high school Performing Arts Center. The first is this evening at 7, when the school orchestras, along with the high school women’s chorus and the Aristocrats, will present their annual Holiday concert. Then on Thursday evening, also at 7, the school bands will take the stage with their Holiday gift to the community. Both events promise to be heartwarming and enjoyable!

As the Holidays draw closer, try to be more patient with everyone you meet and don’t forget to celebrate the season for its true meaning.

See you Out and About.
