Scidmore Park – New playgound equipment

November 10, 2009 by WLKM

Scidmore Park will be sporting some new playground equipment in 2010 following action Monday evening (November 9th) by the Three Rivers City Commission.

Commissioners acted favorably on a recommendation from the Parks Advisory Board to move forward with the purchase of replacement playground equipment with a “barn design” that fits the theme of Scidmore Park and has features for younger and older children.

A staff report from City Clerk Lindsay Howes and City Manager Joe Bippus said, “If ordered tomorrow, the equipment can be planned for installation by mid-January so that it is ready when spring arrives.”

According to the report, the commission budgeted $100,500 that included over $55,000 of donations for new playground equipment. Additional donations totaling $7,190 have been received in the interim, thus leaving a $4,865 balance to be covered by fund balance.

The option chosen has a total project cost of $112,555.

The report says, “The posts are schedule 40 steel pipe, and we would expect the equipment will still be here over twenty years from now.”

The equipment, manufactured by Columbia Cascade Company, will be acquired through A to Z Recreation Company at a cost of $79,005. Installation, at a cost of $33,550, will be handled by Michigan Recreational Construction.
