Suspect arrested near Vandalia

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department has apprehended a man who is a suspect in the armed robbery last week of the Hilltop Gas Station Union. Acting on a tip, Edward Wing was taken into custody from a location in Calvin Township. Wing was the subject of a manhunt Monday after he fled from police into a cornfield south of Vandalia.

Increased fee for marriage waiver

Members of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners have agreed to increase the fee for a marriage waiver. During Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners acted on Clerk Pattie Bender’s request to raise the fee from $5 to $25. Cass County Sheriff Joe Underwood Jr. said the suspect behind an armed robbery Tuesday in the unincorporated community of Union remains at large. The incident occurred at 5:10 p.m. and took place at Hilltop Laundry, located in the 13500 block of U.S. 12. Witnesses identified the suspect as a white male in his late 30s.
