Marcella E. (Wing) Miller, age 89 of Plainwell and formerly of Mendon, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at the Plainwell Pines Nursing Facility where she was a patient for one month. She was born in Fulton, MI on Sep. 6, 1920 the daughter of Maurice Robert and Elma Annie (Shook) Wing. She attended Leonidas Elementary and later graduated from Colon High School. Marcella also attended Western Michigan University and Argubright Business College. She worked for the Haskins & Sells Accounting firm before she was married to Lloyd J. “Bert” Miller on July 25, 1942 in Coldwater. Together they operated a grocery store in Leonidas for several years. They moved to Mendon in 1951 where she attended the Mendon United Methodist Church. Marcella was the Bookkeeper and Secretary to the Superintendent at Mendon High School from 1961-75. Following the death of her husband in 1981, she lived with her daughter in Three Rivers and Plainwell.
Marcella is survived by her daughter, Susan Miller of Plainwell, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 sister, Mary Berger; and 3 brothers, George Willard “Jack” Wing, Wayne Nathaniel “Pete” Wing, and Wilfred M. “Bill” Wing.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 6, 2010 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Leonidas Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to either the Mendon United Methodist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
