Mary Ellen Iobe, age 68 of Leonidas, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a long illness.
She was born in Sturgis on March 17, 1942, the daughter of Maurice and Stella (Sosinski) Condon.
Mary attended Holy Angels Elementary and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1960. She graduated from Kellogg Community College School of Nursing in 1964 as an LPN. She had worked at Dr. Dettman’s office in Sturgis for several years, and most recently was a home health care nurse for Lifespan of Battle Creek. Mary was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon where she was a lector, and active in the Altar Society. She was a 4-H leader for 40 years, was a member of the “Stamping-up” card club, made angels, and celebrated life with the Red Hat Society.
Mary was married to Gary Iobe in Holy Angels Church on Sep. 11, 1976. He survives, along with a son and daughter in law, Corey and Stephanie Iobe of Mendon; three grandsons, Noah, Benjiman, and Zakari Iobe; a sister-in-law, Gloria Condon of Burr Oak; two nephews, Thomas Condon (Myrth) of Burr Oak, and Joseph Condon (Lee Ann) of Colon. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Stephen Condon.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. James Vinh Le officiating. Burial will follow at Beard Cemetery in Leonidas Township.
