Henry Schwartz, 80

Henry Schwartz, 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away late Friday evening, Dec. 24, 2010, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich.

He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Hicksville, Ohio a son of the late Daniel and Katherine (Nussbaum) Schwartz.

Mr. Schwartz lived most of his life in Sturgis. His early life and growing up years were spent in the LaGrange, Ind., area.

On Aug. 15, 1949, he married Pauline N. Eichorn in Sturgis. She died May 1, 2003. He married Aldinita Laranjeira July 3, 2004, in LaGrange, Ind.

Henry was a barber by trade, a career he enjoyed for many years.

He was a member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and was a longtime active member of Gideon’s International. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, fishing and was a very talented painter. He loved time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Aldinita from Brazil; three daughters, Louanne (Bill) Younts of Constantine, Ida (Jim) Miller of Sarasota, Fla., and Amy (Mick) Reed of Kalamazoo; three sons, Wayne (Joi) Schwartz of Sturgis, Ken Schwartz of Sarasota, Fla., and Henry (Kendra) Schwartz of Sturgis; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Maynard) Borntrager of Mississippi; three brothers, David (Alta) Schwartz of Virginia, Joseph (Ella) Schwartz of Indiana and Daniel (Barbara) Schwartz of Bronson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; one grandson; and one brother, Simon Schwartz.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today (Monday) and from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene, 70031 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, Mich., 49091. Funeral services celebrating the life of Henry Schwartz will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. John Shoup will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Locust Grove Cemetery in Burr Oak.
