Frances Asselin-Liggett, 72

Frances A. Asselin-Liggett, age 72, of Haslett, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 following a year-long battle with cancer. She was born in Detroit on Jan. 8, 1939 the daughter of Norman W. and Mary Ellen (Graves) McKinney. The family later moved to Kalamazoo where she attended Kalamazoo Central High School. Frances was first married to Harold Allen, and they had two daughters, Colleen McPherson of Vicksburg and Diane McElrath of Portage. Her second marriage to William Asselin, Jr. blessed them with 3 daughters, Barbara Asselin of Portage, Suzanne Asselin-Wilson of DeWitt, and Lisa (Roger) Holcomb of Howell. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gerald T. McKinney of Lincoln Park and Norman A. (Kathy) McKinney of LaPeer. Her third marriage to Arthur Liggett also ended in divorce.

Frances enjoyed cooking for her family, flower gardening, and travel. She resided briefly in Mendon in the mid ‘80s before returning to Kalamazoo, and has been a resident of Haslett the past 7 years.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday March 11, 2011 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. Father Jim Vinh Le officiating, and where the family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to services. Committal of ashes will take place in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery followed by a gathering in the social room of the church.
