Lloyd Shafer, 86

Lloyd H. Shafer Jr., 86, of White Pigeon, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Mongo, Ind., the son of Lloyd H. and Mabel (Bedford) Shafer Sr.

He was a graduate of Mongo, Ind., High School where he was class president. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran during World War 11 in the Pacific and had been a White Pigeon area resident since 1953, coming from Bronson, Mich.

On May 10, 1980, he married Mary Sue Burnau in White Pigeon.

He was employed by Constantine Creamery, Trailer Manufacturing and Darling Company in Bronson, and was a member of the Scott United Methodist Church, the Teamsters, American Legion Post #255, Sturgis VFW Post #1355. He was a life member of the NRA and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, camping and most of all his family.

Surviving are his wife, Mary S. Shafer of White Pigeon; four daughters, Jacqueline (Ivan) Wright of White Pigeon, Mary (Ronald) Suszko of Sturgis, Lynette Parish of Galesburg, Mich., and Pamela (Darrell) Burton of White Pigeon; one, Lonnie (Lori) Shafer of Mottville; stepson, Red (Eileen) Davis of Mishawaka, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha (Titus) Speicher of LaGrange, Ind.; brother, Arnold Shafer of Mesa, Ariz; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Shafer; two sister and one brother.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Pastor Jeffrey Stedge, of The Scott United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in White Pigeon Township Cemetery with full military rites.
