Phyllis Barr, 80

Phyllis A. Barr, 80, of Bronson, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at The Community Health Center of Branch County.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Kurt Kuhlmann of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bronson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Dutcher –Kolcz Funeral Home.

Phyllis was born July 10, 1931, in Sturgis Mich., to Ralph and Floy (Wells) Fitch. She had been a lifelong resident of the Bronson area, graduating from Bronson High School in 1948 at the age of 16. She married Robert Barr on Oct. 1, 1949, in Burr Oak. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1995.

Phyllis was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Burr Oak. She worked at Douglas in Bronson for about 10 years and then was employed at the Coldwater Regional Center as an attendant for 21 years, retiring in 1994, so she could enjoy traveling with her husband. After the death of her husband, Phyllis opened a gift shop in Bronson, “Phyllis’ Frills & Fragrances.” She closed the shop after almost 3 years so she could enjoy other activities.

Phyllis was a member of the State Employee Retirees Association serving as Assistant Corresponding Secretary, a member of the Branch County Chapter of AARP #3590 of Coldwater, having served on the board, the Red Hat Society and volunteered at the H & C Burnside Senior Center, enjoying the many trips that they offered.

Mrs. Barr is survived by her sons Bob Barr (Karen Fisher) of Bronson, Larry ( LouAnne) Barr of Coldwater, Bill (Debra) Barr of Sturgis; her brother, Ralph Fitch of Elkhart, Ind.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
